January Books

I’ve decided that if this book reading post thing is going to work this year, I should limit my posts to once a month. So here goes.

I’ve already mentioned how I started the year with the first four books of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy trilogy, and followed that with the Fall of Gondolin and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. That brought us to eight.

Sometimes I re-read stuff I’ve already, and sometimes I pick new stuff from familiar authors. Sometimes I go by book reviews. And sometimes I just wander the library or bookstore aisles and wait for something to grab my eye. Like #9 did.

The first two things that caught my eye at the library were the title and the authors – Mycroft and Sherlock, by Jabbar/Waterhouse. I’ve enjoyed the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Sherlock stories before, as well as the Downey and Cumberbatch iterations on film and TV. And Jabbar… that wasn’t Kareem, was it? Why yes, yes it was! (Apparently he’s quite the writer and has partnered with Anna Waterhouse on several projects.) I grabbed the book, and was pleasantly surprised. It was a nice foray into the Holmes-iverse, with a late-teen Sherlock and assorted characters. I heartily recommend it.

(I started another book after this, but didn’t finish it in time for January’s group. So it will kick of February’s list which I’ll write about in March.)

So that’s nine for January, well on the path to another 100 book year. Thumbs up on all I’ve read so far.
